Ingredients
Scale
Apple Fries
- 3 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work well)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
- Pinch of salt
Optional Dipping Sauces
- Caramel sauce
- Peanut butter
- Greek yogurt with honey
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash apples under cool running water thoroughly. Core each apple using an apple corer or a sharp knife to remove seeds and core sections.
- Slice the apples: Cut each apple into 1/4-inch thick planks. Stack these planks together and slice them again into 1/4-inch thick fries to create thin, fry-shaped apple slices.
- Season the apple fries: In a large bowl, combine the apple fries with olive oil or melted coconut oil, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground ginger (if using), brown sugar (if using), and a pinch of salt. Toss gently to evenly coat all apple fries with the spice and oil mixture.
- Preheat the air fryer: If your air fryer requires preheating, set the temperature to 375°F (190°C) and preheat for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Place fries in air fryer basket: Arrange the apple fries in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding by cooking in batches if necessary to allow proper air circulation and even cooking.
- Air fry the apple fries: Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 12 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through the cooking time to ensure both sides become evenly crisp and golden.
- Check for doneness: Insert a fork or toothpick into one of the fries; it should feel tender but not mushy. If the fries are not tender enough, continue cooking and check every 1-2 minutes to avoid overcooking.
- Cool the apple fries: Remove the apple fries from the air fryer and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly. This helps maintain their crispness.
- Prepare dipping sauces: While the fries cool, prepare any preferred dipping sauces such as caramel sauce, peanut butter, or Greek yogurt mixed with honey.
- Serve: Serve the apple fries warm and fresh alongside your chosen dipping sauces for a delightful snack or dessert.
Notes
- You can use any apple variety but Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji apples work best for crispiness and balance of sweetness.
- If you prefer less sweetness, omit the brown sugar or reduce the amount.
- Make sure to slice the apples evenly to ensure all fries cook uniformly.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation and crisping.
- Serve immediately after cooking to enjoy the best texture and flavor.
- Optional spices like ground ginger add extra warmth, but can be left out if desired.
- Leftover fries can be stored refrigerated and lightly reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain crispiness.
