Description

These Baked Crab Rangoon Wontons are a deliciously crispy and creamy appetizer featuring a savory filling of cream cheese and lump crab meat wrapped in wonton wrappers and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for parties or a tasty snack, they deliver traditional flavors without the need for frying, making them a lighter yet indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 6 oz lump crab meat (or imitation crab), chopped
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Assembly

  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • Olive oil spray or melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lightly greasing it or lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped lump crab meat, finely sliced green onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated for a smooth and flavorful filling.
  3. Assemble wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean work surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the crab cream cheese filling into the center of the wrapper. Lightly moisten the edges of the wrapper with water to help seal it. Fold the wrapper into a triangle shape or bring all four corners up to the center and pinch tightly to seal the wonton, ensuring no filling escapes.
  4. Place on baking sheet: Arrange the filled wontons on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each to ensure even cooking.
  5. Brush with oil or butter: Lightly brush the tops of each wonton with melted butter or spray lightly with olive oil to promote browning and crispiness during baking.
  6. Bake: Bake the wontons in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve: Remove from oven and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, bake the wontons on a wire rack set on top of the baking sheet to allow air circulation around each piece.
  • Wontons can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven or air fryer to maintain their crisp texture.
  • Substitute imitation crab for lump crab meat for a budget-friendly alternative.
