Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Balls
- 8 ounces goat cheese
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 – 3/4 cup Panko bread crumbs
- Salt & pepper to taste
Optional Toppings
- Hot honey, for drizzling
- Fresh herbs, for garnish
Instructions
- Divide and Shape Goat Cheese: Divide the goat cheese into 16 equal pieces and gently roll each into a ball shape. Place the formed goat cheese balls in the freezer for about 20 minutes to firm up.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (204ºC). Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
- Prepare Coating Stations: Set up three separate bowls: one with flour, one with a beaten egg, and one with Panko bread crumbs seasoned with salt and pepper. This setup will help you evenly coat the goat cheese balls.
- Coat the Cheese Balls: Roll each chilled goat cheese ball first in the flour, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned Panko bread crumbs. Ensure each ball is evenly coated to achieve a crispy crust.
- Bake: Arrange the coated goat cheese balls on the prepared baking sheet. For extra crispiness, optionally spray them lightly with olive oil cooking spray. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes or until the exterior is golden brown and crispy.
- Optional Finish: Remove the goat cheese balls from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Drizzle with hot honey for a sweet and spicy contrast, and garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
Notes
- Freezing the goat cheese balls helps maintain their shape during baking.
- You can adjust the amount of hot honey to taste depending on your preference for sweetness and heat.
- Fresh herbs like thyme, basil, or parsley add a fresh burst of flavor and color.
- Olive oil spray is optional but enhances crispiness without adding excess oil.
- These cheese balls are best served warm for the perfect gooey inside and crispy outside.
