Brownies:

  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 large)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Frosting (optional):

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas, and mix until well combined.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually stir dry ingredients into the banana mixture until just combined. Fold in walnuts or chocolate chips if using.
  4. Bake: Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely.
  5. Make frosting: For the frosting, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add milk and brown sugar, stir until sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool slightly, then whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla. Spread over cooled brownies and let set before slicing.
