Description

Indulge in these delicious Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls that combine the flavors of banana bread with the warmth of cinnamon in a delightful swirl, topped with a creamy glaze. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 1 cup mashed ripe banana (about 2 bananas)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Glaze:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Dough: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle yeast over the top. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. In a large mixing bowl, combine mashed banana, egg, melted butter, and yeast mixture. Stir in 3 cups of flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms, adding more flour if needed. Knead by hand or with a dough hook for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  2. Filling: Meanwhile, prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll out on a floured surface into a 10×14-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top. Roll up tightly from the long edge and cut into 12 even slices.
  3. Baking: Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. Glaze: While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze by beating cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and spreadable. Spread glaze over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor.
  • These rolls can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight before the second rise. Let them come to room temp before baking.
