- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk

- 8 slices brioche or thick-cut bread

- Powdered sugar (for serving)
Blackberry Compote:
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Blackberry Compote: Combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, and water in a saucepan. Simmer for 8–10 minutes, smashing some berries, until syrupy. Set aside.
- French Toast: Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Dip bread slices in mixture, cook on a skillet until golden. Serve topped with compote and powdered sugar.
Notes
- For a richer custard, use half-and-half instead of milk.
- The compote can be refrigerated for up to 5 days.
