Jam Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 ½ tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or agave nectar
- A squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
- A pinch of cardamom (optional)
- A splash of vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Blueberries: In a small pot over medium-high heat, add the blueberries and cook for about 5 minutes until they start breaking down and releasing their juice.
- Mash the Berries: Use a potato masher or wooden spoon to mash the blueberries into a saucy consistency once they are mostly broken down to a coarse purée.
- Mix in Sweetener and Chia Seeds: Remove the pot from heat. Stir in the maple syrup and chia seeds thoroughly.
- Cool and Thicken: Let the jam cool completely. For best results, transfer it to the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight to thicken and develop flavors.
Notes
- This jam can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Feel free to customize with spices like cardamom or vanilla for added flavor.
- Use maple syrup or agave nectar to keep the recipe vegan and natural.
- If you prefer a smoother jam, blend the cooled mixture before chilling.
- Perfect for small batches without the need for canning or added pectin.
