Description

This Bobby Flay Salisbury Steak recipe is a gourmet twist on a classic comfort food favorite. Juicy ground beef patties are seasoned to perfection, smothered in a rich mushroom onion gravy, and served with creamy mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

For the steak patties:

  • pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

For the mushroom onion gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced yellow onion
  • 8 ounces cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the steak patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, and parsley. Shape into oval patties.
  2. Cook the patties: Brown the patties in a skillet, then set aside.
  3. Make the mushroom onion gravy: Sauté onions and mushrooms, add flour, then broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Combine and simmer: Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer until heated through.
  5. Serve: Enjoy hot with mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, deglaze the skillet with red wine before adding the broth.
  • You can also add a touch of cream at the end for a richer sauce.
