Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 4 large flour tortillas
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup pickles, sliced
- 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Animal Style Sauce
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil and cook the finely chopped onions until caramelized, about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally to avoid burning. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook Ground Beef: In the same skillet, add the ground beef and cook over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
- Make Animal Style Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, and salt and pepper to taste until smooth and well combined.
- Warm Tortillas: Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet over low heat or microwave them for about 20 seconds until they are pliable and easy to roll.
- Assemble Burritos: Lay each tortilla flat and layer with cooked ground beef, caramelized onions, a slice of cheddar cheese, pickles, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes (if using), and a generous drizzle of the Animal Style sauce.
- Roll Burritos: Fold in the sides of the tortilla and roll tightly to enclose the filling securely, forming a burrito shape.
- Optional Toasting: For extra texture and melted cheese, toast the burritos in a clean skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese inside melts.
- Serve: Serve the burritos warm with extra Animal Style sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling.
Notes
- You can add diced tomatoes for extra freshness or omit if preferred.
- Use flour tortillas that are large enough to comfortably hold all the fillings without tearing.
- For a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce to the Animal Style sauce.
- These burritos can be made ahead of time and stored refrigerated; reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
- Leftover burritos can be wrapped in foil and baked at 350°F for 10 minutes to refresh the texture.
