Description

These Cheeseburger Burritos Animal Style combine the classic flavors of an animal style burger with the convenience of a burrito. Ground beef cooked with caramelized onions, melty cheddar cheese, pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla and topped with a tangy, creamy Animal Style sauce. Perfect for a flavorful and satisfying meal that’s quick to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup pickles, sliced
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Animal Style Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Caramelize Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil and cook the finely chopped onions until caramelized, about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally to avoid burning. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In the same skillet, add the ground beef and cook over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  3. Make Animal Style Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, and salt and pepper to taste until smooth and well combined.
  4. Warm Tortillas: Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet over low heat or microwave them for about 20 seconds until they are pliable and easy to roll.
  5. Assemble Burritos: Lay each tortilla flat and layer with cooked ground beef, caramelized onions, a slice of cheddar cheese, pickles, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes (if using), and a generous drizzle of the Animal Style sauce.
  6. Roll Burritos: Fold in the sides of the tortilla and roll tightly to enclose the filling securely, forming a burrito shape.
  7. Optional Toasting: For extra texture and melted cheese, toast the burritos in a clean skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese inside melts.
  8. Serve: Serve the burritos warm with extra Animal Style sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling.

Notes

  • You can add diced tomatoes for extra freshness or omit if preferred.
  • Use flour tortillas that are large enough to comfortably hold all the fillings without tearing.
  • For a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce to the Animal Style sauce.
  • These burritos can be made ahead of time and stored refrigerated; reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
  • Leftover burritos can be wrapped in foil and baked at 350°F for 10 minutes to refresh the texture.
