Potatoes:
- 2 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, thinly sliced (about 1/8 inch thick)
Cheese Sauce:
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the cheese sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic, cook until fragrant. Whisk in flour to form a roux. Slowly add milk and cream, simmer until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, onion powder, and cheddar cheese.
- Layer the potatoes: Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them. Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce.
- Add cheese topping: Sprinkle remaining cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Rest and garnish: Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.
