Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwiches featuring tender, thinly sliced chicken breasts sautéed with caramelized onions and bell peppers, layered with melted provolone cheese inside toasted hoagie rolls. Perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Vegetables

  • 1 ½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Assembly

  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls, toasted
  • 8 slices provolone cheese or American cheese

Instructions

  1. Sauté Onions and Peppers: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and bell peppers, cooking for 5–6 minutes until they are softened and lightly caramelized. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  2. Cook Chicken: In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced chicken breasts. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring frequently until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly golden.
  3. Combine and Melt Cheese: Return the cooked onions and peppers to the skillet and stir to combine evenly with the chicken. Lower the heat and place slices of cheese over the top. Cover the skillet with a lid or foil and let the cheese melt for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Assemble Sandwiches: Spoon the cheesy chicken mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls. Serve the sandwiches hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Customize your sandwiches with mushrooms, banana peppers, or a drizzle of hot sauce for extra flavor.
  • Try shredded mozzarella or pepper jack cheese as tasty alternatives to provolone or American cheese.
  • Serve these sandwiches alongside fries, chips, or a pickle for a classic American meal experience.
