Description

This luscious Chocolate Buttercream is a smooth, creamy frosting perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. Made with simple ingredients like unsalted butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and cream, it offers a rich chocolate flavor with a fluffy texture that’s easy to whip up in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Buttercream Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Beat the Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth, about 2–3 minutes.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Sift in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder to avoid lumps. Beat on low speed until mostly incorporated, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 2 minutes to combine thoroughly.
  3. Add Flavor and Cream: Mix in the vanilla extract, salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream. Beat at medium speed until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, adding more cream as needed to reach your desired consistency.
  4. Final Whip: Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure even mixing, then whip again for 30 seconds before using to decorate your baked treats.

Notes

  • This buttercream is ideal for frosting cakes, cupcakes, or cookies.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Before using refrigerated or frozen buttercream, bring it to room temperature and re-whip to restore its fluffy texture.
