Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 can (8 oz) crescent rolls
Filling
- 1/2 lb breakfast sausage (or any sausage of your choice)
- 1/2 cup diced onions (optional)
- 1/2 cup diced bell peppers (optional)
Egg Mixture
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Topping
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the casserole.
- Cook Sausage and Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into small pieces. Add diced onions and bell peppers in the last few minutes to sauté until soft. Drain excess grease.
- Prepare Crescent Roll Base: Roll out the crescent rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, pressing seams together to form a solid crust layer at the bottom.
- Mix Egg Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until fully combined and smooth.
- Assemble Casserole: Spread the cooked sausage and vegetable mixture evenly over the crescent roll crust. Pour the egg mixture evenly on top, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over everything.
- Bake: Place the assembled casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the egg mixture is set and the top is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Let the casserole cool slightly to set before slicing and serving warm.
Notes
- You can substitute the breakfast sausage with turkey sausage or a vegetarian sausage alternative for a different twist.
- Omit onions and bell peppers if preferred, or add other vegetables like mushrooms or spinach.
- For a spicier version, add some chopped jalapeños or cayenne pepper to the egg mixture.
- Make sure to press the crescent rolls seams tightly so the crust holds together well during baking.
- This casserole can be prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning for convenience.
