Description

Dolly’s Chicken and Stuffing Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish featuring tender shredded chicken mixed with creamy soup and sour cream, topped with buttery stuffing for a golden, crunchy finish. Perfect for family dinners, this easy-to-make casserole combines classic flavors with a simple prep and bake method.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or cubed
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1½ cups frozen mixed vegetables or chopped green beans (optional)

Stuffing Topping

  • 1 (6 oz) box stuffing mix (such as Stove Top)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy serving.
  2. Mix the Chicken Base: In a large bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, chicken broth, poultry seasoning, and black pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Add Chicken and Vegetables: Fold in the shredded or cubed cooked chicken along with the frozen mixed vegetables or chopped green beans if using. Mix until everything is evenly combined.
  4. Assemble the Casserole: Spread the chicken and vegetable mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, ensuring an even layer.
  5. Prepare Stuffing Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the dry stuffing mix with the melted unsalted butter. Stir well until the stuffing is fully coated in butter and crumbly.
  6. Add Stuffing Layer: Sprinkle the buttered stuffing mix evenly over the top of the chicken mixture to create a crispy topping.
  7. Bake: Place the casserole in the oven and bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the stuffing is golden brown and the casserole bubbles around the edges.
  8. Rest and Serve: After baking, let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes to set. Serve warm and enjoy your comforting meal.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken to save time and add extra flavor.
  • For a more flavorful dish, sauté the vegetables before adding them to the mixture.
  • This casserole freezes well; assemble it ahead of time and bake when ready to serve.
