Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Dough
- 2 (8 oz) cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
Glaze and Topping
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsp milk
- Yellow, green, and purple colored sugar, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare for baking the King Cake Bites.
- Make cream cheese filling: In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, and lemon juice using a mixer until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Prepare dough: Separate each refrigerated crescent roll can into 4 rectangles, making a total of 8 rectangles. Seal any seams to prevent filling leakage. Sprinkle about ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon evenly onto each rectangle.
- Assemble the Bites: Spread the cream cheese mixture down the center of each cinnamon-sprinkled rectangle. Fold the dough lengthwise into thirds, bringing the long edges up to cover the filling completely. Cut each folded rectangle into 4 equal squares and place them seam-side down on a baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake the King Cake Bites in the preheated oven for 13 to 15 minutes, or until they turn golden brown. Allow them to cool slightly before glazing.
- Prepare glaze and garnish: Mix the remaining 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons milk until smooth. Spread this glaze over the slightly cooled King Cake Bites and sprinkle generously with yellow, green, and purple colored sugars to finish.
Notes
- You can substitute lemon juice with vanilla extract for a different flavor variation in the filling.
- Make sure to seal the seams of the crescent dough well to prevent the cream cheese filling from leaking during baking.
- Use colored sugars in traditional Mardi Gras colors (yellow, green, purple) for authentic festive decoration.
- Let the King Cake Bites cool slightly before glazing to ensure the glaze sets properly.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
