Description

These Easy King Cake Bites are a fun, bite-sized twist on the traditional King Cake, perfect for celebrating Mardi Gras or any festive occasion. Soft and flaky crescent roll dough is filled with a sweet cream cheese mixture, baked to golden perfection, and topped with a colorful glaze sprinkled with vibrant sugars in classic Mardi Gras colors.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Dough

  • 2 (8 oz) cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls

Glaze and Topping

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • Yellow, green, and purple colored sugar, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare for baking the King Cake Bites.
  2. Make cream cheese filling: In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, and lemon juice using a mixer until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Prepare dough: Separate each refrigerated crescent roll can into 4 rectangles, making a total of 8 rectangles. Seal any seams to prevent filling leakage. Sprinkle about ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon evenly onto each rectangle.
  4. Assemble the Bites: Spread the cream cheese mixture down the center of each cinnamon-sprinkled rectangle. Fold the dough lengthwise into thirds, bringing the long edges up to cover the filling completely. Cut each folded rectangle into 4 equal squares and place them seam-side down on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake: Bake the King Cake Bites in the preheated oven for 13 to 15 minutes, or until they turn golden brown. Allow them to cool slightly before glazing.
  6. Prepare glaze and garnish: Mix the remaining 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons milk until smooth. Spread this glaze over the slightly cooled King Cake Bites and sprinkle generously with yellow, green, and purple colored sugars to finish.

Notes

  • You can substitute lemon juice with vanilla extract for a different flavor variation in the filling.
  • Make sure to seal the seams of the crescent dough well to prevent the cream cheese filling from leaking during baking.
  • Use colored sugars in traditional Mardi Gras colors (yellow, green, purple) for authentic festive decoration.
  • Let the King Cake Bites cool slightly before glazing to ensure the glaze sets properly.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
