Description

These Easy Lemon Rolls are a delightful treat combining creamy lemon-flavored filling with soft, fluffy French bread dough, baked to golden perfection and topped with a tangy lemon glaze. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack, they come together quickly and offer bright citrusy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • ½ (8-oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp lemon zest

Dough

  • 1 (11-oz) can refrigerated French bread dough
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar

Glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375ºF (190ºC) and lightly spray a 9-inch cake pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, brown sugar, and lemon zest together at medium speed using an electric mixer until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Roll Out Dough: Unroll the refrigerated French bread dough onto a clean surface. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/4-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  4. Form Rolls: Starting from one of the long edges, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Pinch the edges to seal the seam and keep the rolls intact.
  5. Slice Rolls: Using a serrated knife, carefully cut the rolled dough into 12 equal slices. Arrange the slices cut-side up in the prepared cake pan.
  6. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake the rolls for 25 to 30 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
  7. Make Glaze and Finish: In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar with 1 to 2 tablespoons of lemon juice until smooth and pourable. Spread this glaze evenly over the warm rolls before serving for a sweet and tangy finish.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to achieve a smooth filling without lumps.
  • Adjust the amount of lemon juice in the glaze to your preference for tartness and consistency.
  • Use a serrated knife for clean slices that keep the rolls intact.
  • These rolls are best served warm but can be reheated gently before serving.
  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
