Description

Easy Peach Tea is a refreshing summer drink made with ripe peaches simmered into a sweet syrup, combined with freshly brewed black tea and a splash of lemon juice. Perfectly balanced between sweet and tangy, this peach tea is ideal for hot days and can be served chilled over ice with optional fresh peach slices, mint, and lemon wedges for garnish.

Ingredients

Scale

Peach Syrup

  • 4 ripe peaches, pitted and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 8 cups water, divided

Tea

  • 6 black tea bags (or 6 teaspoons loose leaf black tea)
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Ice, for serving

Optional Garnishes

  • Peach slices
  • Mint sprigs
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Combine peaches and sugar: In a medium saucepan, gently stir together sliced peaches and granulated sugar, ensuring sugar coats the peaches evenly.
  2. Let sit: Allow the peach and sugar mixture to sit for 30 minutes at room temperature to draw out natural juices.
  3. Simmer peach mixture: Place saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  4. Cook until soft: Continue simmering for 10-15 minutes until peaches are very soft and the syrup thickens slightly.
  5. Mash peaches: Use a potato masher or spoon to gently mash the softened peaches in the pan.
  6. Strain syrup: Pour the peach mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a heat-proof bowl, pressing the solids to extract as much syrup as possible. Discard or save solids for another use.
  7. Cool syrup: Let the peach syrup cool completely before using. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  8. Boil water: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a kettle or saucepan.
  9. Brew tea: Place black tea bags or loose leaf tea in a tea infuser into a heat-proof pitcher, pour boiling water over them.
  10. Steep tea: Steep for 3-5 minutes depending on desired strength.
  11. Remove tea bags: Remove tea bags or infuser, gently squeezing bags to extract flavor.
  12. Cool tea: Let brewed tea cool to room temperature, optionally refrigerate to speed up cooling.
  13. Combine tea and syrup: In a large pitcher, mix cooled black tea with the cooled peach syrup.
  14. Add lemon juice: Stir in freshly squeezed lemon juice for brightness.
  15. Add cold water: Pour in remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir to combine everything well.
  16. Adjust flavor: Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness—add more lemon juice if too sweet or more syrup/sugar if needed.
  17. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to meld flavors.
  18. Serve: Fill glasses with ice and pour chilled peach tea over ice.
  19. Garnish (optional): Add fresh peach slices, mint sprigs, and lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

  • If you prefer a less sweet tea, reduce the sugar or adjust lemon juice to taste.
  • Use ripe, fragrant peaches for the best flavor.
  • This peach syrup can be used in other beverages or desserts.
  • The tea can be made with green tea or herbal tea alternatives if desired.
  • Store leftover peach tea in the refrigerator and consume within 3-4 days for best freshness.
