Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare baking sheets: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Shape and bake: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, coat in granulated sugar, and place on baking sheets. Flatten slightly and bake for 8–10 minutes.
  7. Cool and enjoy: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewy cookies, avoid overbaking.
  • Add sprinkles or colored sugar for decoration.
  • Dough can be chilled for thicker cookies or frozen for later use.
