Description

This Ground Beef and Cabbage Skillet is a flavorful and easy one-pan meal that is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner. Packed with protein and veggies, this dish is satisfying and delicious.

Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Cabbage and Seasonings:

  • 1 small head green cabbage, cored and chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Topping (Optional):

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and onion, cooking until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 5–6 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add Flavors: Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add cabbage, diced tomatoes with their juice, tomato paste, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir well, cover, and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender.
  3. Finish and Serve: Uncover and cook an additional 2–3 minutes to allow excess liquid to evaporate. If desired, sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top and cover until melted before serving.

Notes

  • For a low-carb version, serve as-is or pair with cauliflower rice.
  • This dish also works well with ground turkey or pork.
