Ingredients
Scale
Eggs
- 6 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
Filling
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Red or green food coloring (optional, for spooky effect)
Garnish
- 12 black olive slices or spider shapes (for garnish)
- Smoked paprika or black sesame seeds for topping (optional)
- Plastic gloves (if handling food coloring)
Instructions
- Prepare Eggs: Slice the hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise and carefully remove the yolks into a bowl. Mash the yolks with a fork until smooth.
- Mix Filling: Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, white vinegar, salt, and black pepper to the mashed yolks. Stir the mixture until creamy and well combined.
- Add Color (Optional): If using food coloring, add a few drops to the filling and mix thoroughly. For an orange hue, use a combination of red and yellow food coloring; for green, use green food coloring.
- Fill Egg Whites: Spoon or pipe the colored or plain filling back into the hollowed egg white halves evenly.
- Create Garnish: Top each deviled egg with a black olive slice or fashion spider shapes by using halved olives for bodies and thin slices for legs. Optionally, sprinkle smoked paprika or black sesame seeds over the eggs for extra flair.
- Chill: Place the assembled deviled eggs in the refrigerator and chill for 20–30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld and filling to set.
Notes
- Use plastic gloves when handling food coloring to prevent staining your hands.
- For an added spooky effect, you can dye the egg whites by soaking them briefly in water mixed with food coloring prior to filling.
- Store any leftover deviled eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days to maintain freshness.
