Description

Delight in these elegant Puff Pastry Apple Roses, a visually stunning and delicious dessert that’s perfect for fall. Thinly sliced red apples are softened and wrapped in buttery puff pastry, then baked to golden perfection with a hint of cinnamon and a sweet apricot glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 2 medium red apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons water

Pastry and Glaze

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons apricot preserves
  • 1 tablespoon water (for thinning preserves)

Seasoning and Garnish

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples: Slice the apples in half, core them, and cut into very thin slices. Place in a bowl with lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of water.
  2. Soften Apples: Microwave apple slices for about 3 minutes until they become pliable, checking and heating in 30-second intervals if needed.
  3. Prepare Apricot Glaze: Mix apricot preserves with 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl and microwave for 30 seconds to thin the mixture.
  4. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 6 equal strips.
  5. Spread Glaze: Spread a thin layer of the apricot mixture on each puff pastry strip.
  6. Arrange Apples: Lay apple slices along the top edge of each strip, overlapping slightly with the skin side sticking out.
  7. Season: Sprinkle the apple slices with ground cinnamon evenly.
  8. Form Roses: Fold the bottom half of each pastry strip over the apples and gently roll from one end to form a rose shape.
  9. Prepare for Baking: Place each rose into a muffin tin cup lined or greased.
  10. Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Cool and Dust: Allow the apple roses to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Use Honeycrisp or Pink Lady apples for the best color and texture.
  • If apples remain too firm after microwaving, continue heating in 30-second increments until pliable.
  • Ensure puff pastry is well thawed for easy rolling and shaping.
  • Dusting with powdered sugar is optional but adds a beautiful finishing touch.
