Description

Indulge in the perfect blend of sweet and salty with these Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Bars. A buttery oat crust and topping sandwich a layer of spiced apples and decadent salted caramel for a delightful dessert treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust and Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Apple Filling:

  • 3 medium apples, peeled and finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Salted Caramel:

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix crust: In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add melted butter and mix until crumbly. Reserve 1 cup for topping.
  3. Form crust: Press remaining mixture into the pan to form the crust. Bake for 10 minutes.
  4. Prepare apple filling: Toss diced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Layer and bake: Spread apple filling over warm crust, drizzle with caramel, and top with reserved crumb mixture. Bake for 30–35 minutes.
  6. Cool and serve: Cool completely, drizzle with more caramel if desired, chill, and slice into bars.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best contrast with the caramel.
  • Bars can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Serve warm or cold—great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
