- 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- optional toppings: chopped nuts, sea salt, sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and lightly grease it.
- Prepare the crackers: Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer to cover the bottom of the pan completely.
- Make the toffee: In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Simmer for 3 minutes, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Assemble and bake: Pour the hot toffee mixture over the crackers and spread evenly. Bake for 5 minutes, then sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Spread melted chocolate into an even layer.
- Add toppings: Sprinkle desired toppings over the warm chocolate.
- Cool and serve: Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate for faster setting. Once firm, break into pieces and enjoy!
