Ingredients:

  • 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • optional toppings: chopped nuts, sea salt, sprinkles


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  2. Prepare the crackers: Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer to cover the bottom of the pan completely.
  3. Make the toffee: In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Simmer for 3 minutes, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Assemble and bake: Pour the hot toffee mixture over the crackers and spread evenly. Bake for 5 minutes, then sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Spread melted chocolate into an even layer.
  5. Add toppings: Sprinkle desired toppings over the warm chocolate.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate for faster setting. Once firm, break into pieces and enjoy!
