Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 1 lb beef stew meat, cut into cubes
Vegetables
- 4 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 4 potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Liquids and Seasonings
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Gather and prepare all ingredients by cutting the beef stew meat into cubes, peeling and slicing carrots, peeling and dicing potatoes, chopping the onion, and mincing the garlic cloves.
- Combine in Slow Cooker: Place the beef stew meat, carrots, potatoes, chopped onion, and minced garlic into the slow cooker pot.
- Add Liquids and Seasonings: Pour in the 4 cups of beef broth and add 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon dried thyme, 1 teaspoon dried rosemary, salt, and pepper to your taste.
- Mix Thoroughly: Stir all ingredients gently to combine everything evenly within the slow cooker.
- Cook: Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set it to cook. Use the low setting to cook for 7-8 hours or the high setting for 4-5 hours, until the beef is tender and the vegetables are fully cooked and soft.
- Season and Serve: Before serving, taste the stew and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. Then serve hot for a comforting meal.
Notes
- For a thicker stew, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir it into the stew about 30 minutes before serving, then cook until thickened.
- You can add other vegetables such as peas or green beans during the last hour of cooking for additional flavor and nutrition.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
- To enhance flavor, sear the beef cubes in a hot pan before adding to the slow cooker, though this step is optional.
