Main Ingredients:
- 2 pounds beef round steak, cut into 4–6 pieces
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
For the Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes with juice
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions
- Season and Dredge: Season steak pieces with salt and pepper. Dredge in flour, shaking off excess.
- Brown Steak: Brown steak in a skillet or Dutch oven. Set aside.
- Sauté Vegetables: Sauté onion, garlic, and bell peppers until softened.
- Add Ingredients: Add broth, tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, paprika, and bay leaf.
- Simmer: Return steak to the pot, cover, and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until tender.
- Serve: Remove bay leaf and serve with preferred side dish.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, replace half the beef broth with red wine.
- This dish can also be cooked in a slow cooker on low for 6–8 hours after browning the meat and vegetables.
