Description

These Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Avocado Crema offer a vibrant and flavorful meal, combining perfectly seasoned shrimp with a creamy avocado sauce. Quick and easy to prepare, this Mexican-inspired recipe is perfect for a delicious taco night that’s both healthy and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

For the shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For the avocado crema:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • Salt to taste

For assembly:

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Season the shrimp: In a bowl, toss the peeled and deveined shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until they are evenly coated with the spices.
  2. Cook the shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned shrimp and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they turn opaque and develop a light char, ensuring they are fully cooked but still juicy.
  3. Prepare the avocado crema: In a food processor or blender, combine the ripe avocado, sour cream or Greek yogurt, lime juice, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy, adjusting salt to taste if needed.
  4. Warm the tortillas: Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side, or microwave them wrapped in a damp towel for about 20 seconds until warm and pliable.
  5. Assemble the tacos: Spread a generous amount of avocado crema on each warmed tortilla. Top with several shrimp, a handful of shredded cabbage or slaw mix, and sprinkle with chopped cilantro. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tacos.

Notes

  • For extra crunch and flavor, add sliced radishes or pickled red onions to your tacos.
  • You can grill the shrimp instead of cooking in a skillet to infuse a smoky flavor.
  • To make the avocado crema dairy-free, substitute the sour cream or Greek yogurt with a dairy-free yogurt alternative.
