Scale
Sauce Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh pineapple, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
- Salt to taste
Thickening Agent
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, combine the finely chopped fresh pineapple, 1/2 cup water, white vinegar, honey, soy sauce, minced fresh ginger, and minced garlic. Bring this mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, allowing the flavors to start melding together.
- Simmer Pineapple: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes. This softens the pineapple and allows the liquid to infuse with the fruit and spices, developing a rich flavor base.
- Make Cornstarch Slurry: While the sauce simmers, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a smooth slurry. This will be used to thicken the sauce.
- Thicken Sauce: Stir the cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce carefully to avoid lumps. Add the red chili flakes and salt to taste. Continue simmering the sauce for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sauce to cool. As it cools, the sauce will thicken further. Serve alongside grilled dishes or as a flavorful dipping sauce.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of red chili flakes depending on your preferred spice level.
- Use fresh pineapple for the best flavor; canned pineapple may alter the texture and sweetness.
- This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a smoother sauce, blend the mixture before adding the slurry if desired.
- Try this sauce as a glaze for grilled chicken or pork for a tropical twist.
