Description

This Sweet Chili Pineapple Sauce is a tangy, spicy, and slightly sweet condiment perfect for enhancing grilled meats, seafood, or even as a dipping sauce. Made with fresh pineapple, honey, soy sauce, and a balanced kick of red chili flakes, it combines bold flavors simmered to a luscious, thick consistency in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste

Thickening Agent

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, combine the finely chopped fresh pineapple, 1/2 cup water, white vinegar, honey, soy sauce, minced fresh ginger, and minced garlic. Bring this mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, allowing the flavors to start melding together.
  2. Simmer Pineapple: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes. This softens the pineapple and allows the liquid to infuse with the fruit and spices, developing a rich flavor base.
  3. Make Cornstarch Slurry: While the sauce simmers, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a smooth slurry. This will be used to thicken the sauce.
  4. Thicken Sauce: Stir the cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce carefully to avoid lumps. Add the red chili flakes and salt to taste. Continue simmering the sauce for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sauce to cool. As it cools, the sauce will thicken further. Serve alongside grilled dishes or as a flavorful dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of red chili flakes depending on your preferred spice level.
  • Use fresh pineapple for the best flavor; canned pineapple may alter the texture and sweetness.
  • This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For a smoother sauce, blend the mixture before adding the slurry if desired.
  • Try this sauce as a glaze for grilled chicken or pork for a tropical twist.
