Perfect for a satisfying Mexican-American main course that can be easily made at home with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
Beef Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning)
- ½ cup water
Rice & Cheese
- 2 cups cooked seasoned rice (Mexican or cilantro-lime rice)
- 1 cup nacho cheese sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Additional Ingredients
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup fiesta tortilla strips (optional for crunch)
- 4 large flour tortillas (burrito-size)
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked, about 6–8 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the pan to keep the filling from being too oily. Add the taco seasoning and water, stir well to combine all the flavors, then let it simmer gently for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens and becomes well seasoned. Remove from heat.
- Warm the Tortillas: Soften the flour tortillas by warming them either in the microwave for a few seconds or in a dry skillet over medium heat until pliable and easy to fold.
- Assemble the Burritos: On each warm tortilla, layer about ½ cup of the seasoned rice first, then spread a quarter of the cooked taco beef mixture over the rice. Drizzle ¼ cup of nacho cheese sauce on top, followed by a sprinkle of cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Add 2 tablespoons of sour cream and a small handful of fiesta tortilla strips if you want some added crunch.
- Roll and Toast: Fold in the sides of each tortilla and roll it tightly to form a burrito. For a crispy finish and to seal the burrito, place it seam side down in a hot, dry skillet and toast for 1–2 minutes until lightly browned and crisp.
- Serve: Serve each burrito warm, optionally accompanied by extra sour cream or your favorite hot sauce for enhanced flavor.
Notes
- You can substitute seasoned black beans or refried beans instead of beef for a vegetarian variation.
- Add chopped jalapeños or chipotle sauce if you prefer a spicier burrito.
- Fiesta tortilla strips add a delightful crunch but can be omitted if unavailable.
