Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- ¼ cup water
Sandwich
- 4 slices sandwich bread
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
- ¼ cup salsa, drained
Optional Toppings
- Sliced jalapeños
- Diced tomatoes
- Chopped cilantro
Instructions
- Cook the Meat: In a skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook it until browned and fully cooked, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Add Seasoning: Stir in the taco seasoning and water into the cooked meat. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens. Then remove the skillet from heat.
- Prepare the Bread: Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of sandwich bread. This will help achieve a golden crispy texture when grilling.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Place two slices of bread, butter side down, in a clean skillet over medium heat. Layer each with shredded Mexican cheese blend, a few spoonfuls of the taco meat mixture, a bit of drained salsa, and any optional toppings like jalapeños or diced tomatoes. Top with the remaining bread slices, butter side up.
- Grill the Sandwich: Cook each sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula to ensure even browning and melting of the cheese. The bread should be golden brown and the cheese fully melted.
- Serve: Remove from skillet, slice if desired, and serve warm. Consider pairing with sour cream or guacamole for dipping.
Notes
- Try adding refried beans or avocado slices inside the sandwich for extra flavor and texture.
- Using a nonstick skillet or griddle can help achieve even browning and prevent sticking.
- This sandwich pairs wonderfully with sour cream or guacamole as a dipping sauce.
