Description

This Teriyaki Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry is a quick and flavorful Asian-inspired main course featuring tender flank steak and crisp broccoli florets coated in a savory, sweet teriyaki sauce. Perfect for an easy weeknight dinner, it combines a rich blend of garlic, ginger, and honey with a thickened soy-based glaze, served hot over steamed white rice.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 green onions, sliced for garnish

Sauce and Seasonings

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water

Oils and Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the teriyaki sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the low-sodium soy sauce, water, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil until well combined. Set this sauce mixture aside for later use.
  2. Cook the broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and sauté them for 3 to 4 minutes until they turn bright green and are tender yet crisp. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set it aside.
  3. Cook the beef: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Arrange the thinly sliced flank steak in a single layer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until browned and nearly cooked through.
  4. Add aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic and grated fresh ginger with the beef, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant to enhance the flavor.
  5. Combine broccoli and sauce: Return the cooked broccoli to the pan. Pour in the prepared teriyaki sauce, stirring to coat the beef and broccoli evenly.
  6. Thicken the sauce: Add the cornstarch-water mixture to the skillet. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens to a glossy glaze.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the stir-fry. Serve hot over cooked white rice for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari for the soy sauce.
  • You can replace beef with chicken or tofu for variation.
  • Add bell peppers or snap peas for additional color and crunch.
