Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 12 teaspoons chili crunch or chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon arrowroot starch mixed with 2 teaspoons water

Additional:

  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • 12 butter lettuce leaves
  • Optional sliced jalapeño for garnish
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat avocado oil: Heat avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook beef: Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5–6 minutes.
  3. Add vegetables: Add onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened, about 3 minutes.
  4. Flavor infusion: Stir in garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  5. Prepare sauce: Whisk together tamari, sesame oil, lime juice, and chili crunch in a small bowl.
  6. Combine: Pour sauce into skillet, add arrowroot slurry, and stir until slightly thickened.
  7. Finish and serve: Remove from heat, fold in Thai basil leaves until wilted, and serve in lettuce leaves topped with jalapeño if desired.

Notes

  • For extra umami, add a splash of fish sauce to the sauce mixture.
  • If Thai basil is unavailable, use sweet basil with a touch of fresh mint.
  • This recipe can also be made with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
