Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the cupcake pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. Prepare the cupcake batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and cotton candy flavoring. Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until just combined. Divide the batter into two bowls and tint one with pink food coloring and the other with blue. Spoon small amounts of each color into the cupcake liners to create a swirled effect. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  3. Make the frosting: Beat the butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar. Add cotton candy flavoring and heavy cream, beating until fluffy. Divide the frosting and tint with pink and blue food coloring. Fill a piping bag with both colors side by side to create a swirl. Frost the cooled cupcakes and top with a small piece of cotton candy just before serving.
