Sandwich Ingredients
- 4 slices whole grain or sourdough bread
- 1 ripe avocado, sliced
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or sliced provolone cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or softened butter
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Optional: fresh basil leaves
- Optional: a sprinkle of red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Preheat the Skillet: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat until hot enough to toast bread evenly.
- Prepare the Bread: Lightly brush one side of each bread slice with olive oil or softened butter to ensure golden, crispy toasting.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Place two bread slices, oiled side down, on the skillet. Layer each with sliced tomato, avocado, cheese, and optional basil or red pepper flakes. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Top and Grill: Place the remaining two bread slices on top, oiled side up. Grill the sandwiches for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
- Serve Warm: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice them in half, and serve hot for the best gooey and crispy experience.
Notes
- Use a ripe but firm avocado for easier slicing and better texture.
- For extra flavor, spread pesto or Dijon mustard on the inside of the bread before assembling.
